국제교환입주 프로그램으로 스트라스부르에 왔다. 그런데 나는 불어를 하지 못하고, 영어에도 취약하다. 이것은 대개 뻔한 불편으로 이어졌지만, 이따금 의외의 발견으로 이어지기도 했다. 나는 포토샵으로 사진 조작하기, 드로잉과 사진 겹치기, 다른 언어로 된 텍스트 교차시키기 등의 방법을 통해 그러한 경험과 성찰을 시각적으로 재현했다. 이곳 관객들에게 친숙한 이미지로 만든 이 작업들은 역설적으로 그들에게 언어적 타자의 시선을 경험케 할 것이다.

I came Strasbourg in international exchange residency program. However, I’m not able to speak French and also poor at speaking English. Although my language inefficiency obviously leads to inevitable inconvenience, sometimes that helps me to have unexpected discovery. I embodied those experiences and introspections to visual representation, via certain means such as a digital manipulation of photograph, overlapping the drawings on photos, and simultaneous presentation of multi-linguistic texts came out from the result of translating the texts through several interchanging process, etc. These works, which were presented with the familiar images to the local spectators, paradoxically make them to have visual experience of "linguistic others.”

Je suis arrivé en résidence à Strasbourg sans parler français et très peu l’anglais. Cette difficulté de langage a évidemment apporté quelques désagréments, tout en m’amenant à des découvertes inattendues. J’ai voulu donner forme à ces expériences et introspections en créant des images. J’ai utilisé les techniques de retouche de photos, de superposition de dessins et d’image et présenté simultanément des textes multilingues, issus de traductions ou j’ai changé successivement la place des mots. Ces oeuvres, associées à des images familières, permettront aux visiteurs locaux d’expérimenter visuellement le « langage de l’Autre ».
